On Thursday 17th October, MC graciously hosted our end of year Prizegiving. We are incredibly grateful for MC’s support of this event, and their continuous support of our events, including the Log O’Johnston Final which was held at MC the week prior.

2024 has been an incredibly successful year for the club, with us winning the Joynt Scroll, the New Zealand Women and Gender Minorities Debating Championships, the North Island Novice Tournament (Thropy), and reaching the elimination rounds of Worlds, Australs, the Australasian Women and Gender Minorities Debating Championships and Officers Cup. Alongside tournament success our members won 12 Blues Awards and we were named the University of Auckland’s Best Club in Law and were a finalist for Overall Academic Club of the Year. In light of these successes, we had many awards to present at prizegiving. Particular congratulations to the following people for their achievements:

πŸ’› Log O’ Johnston Champions: Mannat Kaur and Henry Isac
πŸ’› Service Shield: Harry Aickin
πŸ’› Best Speaker: Grace Baylis
πŸ’› Best Adjudicator: Daniel Maier-Gant and Grace Baylis
πŸ’› Most Promising Speakers: Eve French and Joe Howells
πŸ’› Most Promising Adjudicator: Judy Fong
πŸ’› George Minton Shield for Social Excellence: Jax Warren Kazor
πŸ’› Most Improved: Amelia Frear
πŸ’› Most Committed: Joe Howells and Jax Warren Kazor
πŸ’› Most Practiced: James Boland

It was lovely to see many generations of debaters all in attendance. Special thanks to life member Daniel Maier-Gant for giving a speech on behalf of alumni!
